Speech and Drama

Speech classes develop creativity and confidence for all ages.

Class description

Speech and drama classes combine fun theatre games and exercises with exploration of text - poetry, prose, plays etc. Children are encouraged to develop their individual performance skills. We take non-compulsory exams twice in the academic year with The Leinster School of Music and Drama. These exams give students a positive and encouraging opportunity to showcase their learning. Annual recitals bring parents and friends to see what we have learned through the year and are an integral part of performance training. Students love these occasions!

  • SD studios works with children ages 7+ (1st class), and all abilities. We work with children to develop a love of literature and the spoken word.

Children are introduced to a wide variety of written material; poetry, prose, monologues, scenes and plays. These structured classes develop children’s confidence in speaking aloud. They also aid clarity in speech; focusing on diction and projection as well as contextually appropriate emotion in reading and performing to build strong foundational techniques on which they can build.

  • Our teens are exploring the history of theatre. They work with material from Ancient Greece up to present day. These students are developing their performance skills to deliver well rounded and nuanced performances.

We work with students through their Junior Cycle, building presentation skills for the CBA components of their exams.

Students may also begin to consider careers in performing arts. We work with our students to build strong audition technique and interesting portfolios of work.

  • Through exploration within the creative arts, we assist adults to develop strong presentation skills both online and in-person to ensure effective communication. These private classes are tailored to the needs of the individual, and are suitable for those who would like to explore acting again (or for the first time!), through to those who would like to develop more confident communication skills. Creative arts can assist all to develop competent communication skills and confidence.
